Happy New Year to each and every one of you. I hope this new year brings many wonderful things into your life. One of the things I always look forward to is the opportunity to learn a new way of creating jewelry.

The new year bring many exciting new things to learn in the realm of jewelry making. The classes this year feature many ways of making metal jewelry taught by a variety of instructors. The class schedule for winter and spring is up on the Stars Beads website (www.starsbeads.com). Give the new classes (and the metal work classes) a look. Class registration begins Monday, January 6. Most of these classes will fill fast, so reserve your space early. There are three ways to register. Mail a check with a note, call 703 938-7018 to register by phone with a credit card, or come in person. A supply list will be given or sent.

Rapt Elegance Jewelry will be offering 6 brand new classes this winter and spring. All the new classes are in creating metal jewelry and jewelry components. The other classes are ones that have been popular with all of you who have been students in the past.

Here is the schedule of classes I am teaching in the winter and spring of 2014 (Ive attached pictures for each class in the order the classes are listed):

January 17 (Friday) Metal Buttons for Button Necklace

Beverlee Stafford teaches a beautiful button necklace great fun, wonderful colors. This sessions she is teaching that class on Monday (Martin Luther King holiday) January 20. This class is designed to give you the opportunity to make buttons in different metals, patterns, and colors in preparation for that class, or just to use as earrings or focal components.

Hours: 10:00am to 4:00pm. Time to make quite a few buttons! Kit fee $20.

Sunday, January 26 Wrap That Chunk

This is the class for those of you who have crystals, tumbled stones or rough stones that you want to turn into pendants. Bring your favorite chunks, or get a couple from the instructor. Learn two ways (or more if time allows) to wrap those irregular stones to make them elegant pendants. See Sue's designs at www.raptelegance.com. The instructor will have square wire and half round and some stones available for purchase in the class. Good for all levels.

Hours: 12:00pm 4:00pm

No fixed kit fee: Ill have crystals and tumbled stones and wire available for purchase, or bring your own (wire needs to be square and half round).

Saturday, February 1 Mixed Metal Earrings

Create interesting earrings using sheet metal you cut to fit one pair of earrings, and metal blanks. Learn to add interesting metal decorations. The class will have time for 2 to 3 pair of earrings. I will have kidney wires for the earrings. If you want another kind of earring findings, bring what you would like to use.

Hours: 10:00am 1:00pm

Kit fee: $15.00

Saturday, February 1 Focal Component or Large Button in Metal and Stone

Design a creative piece for a necklace or bracelet using metal and a focal component like a cabochon, gemstone, or button. This class begins by making a pattern for the stone you wish to include in a focal piece. Cut your focal piece from sheet metal, then smooth and finish the metal. Learn to attach your stone using wire to finish your focal piece.

Hours: 2:00pm 5:00pm

Kit fee: $28, includes sheet metal and 1 piece of intarsia or fine cabochon

Sunday, March 2 Mixed Metal Cuff, Ring, & Earrings

Create interesting earrings using sheet metal you cut to fit one pair of earrings, and metal blanks. Learn to add interesting metal decorations. The class will have time for 2 to 3 pair of earrings. I will have kidney wires for the earrings. If you want another kind of earring findings, bring what you would like to use.

Sunday, March 23 Large Cuff Bracelet with Stones

Make a brass frame to fit your wrist from brass wire. Decorate the bracelet frame with a variety of beads, including a focal bead for the center top. Enhance the look of the bracelet with decorative wire in a contrasting color to highlight a few of your beads.

Hours: 12:00pm 4:00pm

Kit Fee: $25

Sunday, March 30 No Two Alike 1 Cabochon Pendant

Learn to wrap a cabochon with square and .5 round wire to make a pendant. Finish two or three pendants. See her designs at www.raptelegance.com. This is the prerequisite for most other wire classes taught by this instructor.

Great for all levels!

Hours: 10:00am 4:00pm

Kit Fee: $20 for silver filled, brass or copper wire; $35 for Argentium silver wire, payable to instructor on day of class

Sunday, April 6 Braided Summer Bracelet

Create a silver-filled braided wire bracelet with accent colors for summer wear (pink, aqua, purple, etc). The bracelet can be sets of 3 wires (total of 9) or sets of 4 wires (total of 15). If time permits, students can make a second bracelet.

Hours: 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Kit fee: $15 (bronze wire) to $22 (Silver Filled wire)

Sunday, April 13 Adjustable Metal Ring with Gemstone Cabochon

This class covers all the steps involved in making an adjustable cabochon ring. You will make a pattern for your ring and cut sheet metal for the ring, smooth and, if desired, texture the ring metal and shape the ring for your finger. You will also learn how to use wire to secure your stone to your ring. This type of ring can be made from any type sheet metal: this class will be taught using copper sheet.

Hours: 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Kit fee: $20 for sheet metal and cabochon
